Each "sleeve" is a long loose panel of silk chiffon that is set at the top of the shoulder only and then flows down scarf like to suggest the long sleeves of the kimono but in an entirely different manner

This particular dress has the added modern provenance of being worn by Erin Wasson who was lent it from our archives

The skirt balloons out from under the bust and is gathered up and under the hem slightly so you get this saucy little pouf

This is by Christian Dior and it is absolutely wonderful and so very unique. The base is a fine ivory felted wool and the crown of the hat is high and rounded. It then curves softly down to a small brim. Over this is a wide banding of a gold metallic mesh fabric that curves around the base of the crown.
